10 August 2010 Plans to install Muslim-friendly squatting lavatories in a British shopping centre have been dropped.  Councillor Farooq Ahmed called the lavatories 'an embarrassment to Rochdale' which had stirred up racial tension.
Last month the Exchange Shopping Centre in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, disclosed plans to build two "Nile squatting pans" alongside the traditional western lavatories in its newly refurbished lavatory blocks. |

In the 1980s I was studying in the United States for a master’s degree in dentistry and at the same time interning as a doctor in the University of Illinois hospital in Chicago. The patients who came to the hospital were poor Americans, most of them black. Every patient had an accurate medical file which contained his medical history, details of his health and the results of any tests the patient had had. |
